What Is the Structure of a Deep Groove Ball Bearing?
Deep groove ball bearings are the most common type of rolling bearing.
The basic structure of a deep groove ball bearing consists of an outer ring, an inner ring, a set of steel balls, and a cage to hold the balls in place. Deep groove ball bearings come in two main configurations: single-row and double-row. Additionally, the deep groove ball bearing design can be further classified into sealed and open types.
Open Type:This refers to bearings that do not have a sealing structure.
Sealed Type:Sealed deep groove ball bearings can be subdivided into two categories:
Dust-Sealed (Z or ZZ): The dust shield is typically made of stamped steel and serves to prevent dust from entering the bearing's raceways.
Oil-Sealed (RS or 2RS): These bearings feature a rubber seal, often made from stainless steel and rubber, and are further divided into:
Non-contact Oil Seal (2RS): This type is more effective than metal shields in preventing dust from entering the bearing and is ideal for cleaner environments.
Contact Oil Seal (RS): These seals have a three-layer stepped edge design that effectively prevents grease leakage from the bearing, offering superior protection in more demanding environments.
In standard applications, metal shields (ZZ) and rubber seals (RS/2RS) are most commonly used. However, in special applications, a contact-type rubber seal may be used, though it comes at a higher manufacturing cost.
